Paintings of London by Peter Brown NEAC

A plein air love affair

Peter Brown NEAC is a Bath based artist, an all-weather painter of street scenes and city landscapes. He is more affectionately known as ‘Pete the Street’.

Pete The Street

His latest book,  London Paintings by Peter Brown was published in December 2015.  It is a beautiful 200 pages of 150 pictures and anecdotes representing his personal view of his almost  20 years plus love affair with London.  He loves to paint the stations, the markets, the parks and the views in this ever changing city.  He has been driving up to London in his van from his home in Bath 4 days a week to capture the city in its many guises.  His painting reflect the ever changing London scenes and the people he meets through different times of the day and in the different seasons.

In a recent interview with Jackson’s Art, Peter said,  “I absolutely love London. I have painted it for the last 15 years and still find it the most exciting city to work in and be in. I’ve travelled a moderate amount in the last 10 years to Canada, Spain, France, India and around the UK but I have never got bored of painting London. I have always had every painting professionally photographed and a book of my London paintings is a thing that I have always dreamed of.”

Paintings of London

Peter’s largest exhibition to date, ‘Paintings of London’  took place earlier this year,  from 13th January to 12th February 2016 at Messum’s in London. This marked the launch of his Paintings of London book. His work concentrates on Piccadilly and the West End in sun and rain and his new passion, streets at night time. Two centre pieces of Piccadilly Circus are his largest works to date.

Next Exhibition:   Well, busy as ever, Pete is now working towards his next exhibition at the Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, which is scheduled to start on the 3rd December 2016 and run until the 19th February 2017.  It will be his seventh show at the gallery, comprising a split of around half his paintings of Bath and the other half representing his travels around the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, India and wherever else he might travel to paint between now and then.

This exhibition features over 100 new oil paintings and drawings.    In all cases the artist uses the street as his studio and depicts the bustling life he encounters at different times of day and different seasons.  The show will be accompanied by a book.
