Painting Holidays

Welcome to Spencer Scott Travel.

2022 marks our 35th season of offering a hand-picked selection of special experience events. Every programme is tailor-made and evolves from months of forward planning, research and co-ordination.

We have been prevented from operating international programmes for the last two years because of the global restrictions introduced in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Travel was the first industry to be closed by the restrictions and it is the last to open up.  People are starting to make travel plans and to take family holidays but the current problems at airports and with flights are going to take some time to be resolved. Delays and cancellations are largely down to added bureaucracy with extra paperwork and checks needed, and supply and demand issues caused by staff shortages.

Please do check this page regularly for updates as we are planning new programmes for 2023.

En plein air painting programmes with well-known artists

Hazel Soan giving instruction

‘Work-alongside’ painting holidays

for advanced students & experienced painters

working in oils and pastels

This is a rare chance to work alongside some of the best contemporary figurative artists – Peter Brown and Richard Pikesley, in fabulous locations in Europe and further afield.  Guest artists will provide some personal guidance and talks on how they like to work – these are work-alongside painting holidays with a supportive group atmosphere and foremost leadership.

‘Free-style’ painting holidays

for intermediate and advanced students

working in mixed media

Lachlan Goudie, Haidee-Jo Summers and Adebanji Alade will provide some individual guidance and demonstrations when appropriate. These free-style painting holidays will have a loosely structured format based on an organic approach. The aim is to encourage everyone to produce paintings they are happy with.

Tutorial painting holidays

for intermediate and confident beginner students

working in watercolour

Hazel Soan is a dedicated and enthusiastic tutor who gives everything to the students that travel with her. There will be tutorial sessions, group demonstrations and a structured format to help students learn techniques and overcome challenges of en plein air painting. Hazel’s love of Africa and wildlife is well known and she is one of the best tutors to go on a painting safari with.  For those who prefer more familiar painting subjects Hazel also does a European painting holiday.
